The book
Rising Tide Setting Moon
The stretch of the Wexford coast, from the river to the sea. In progress.
Rising Tide Setting Moon is made of short pieces: the fish, the fly, the tide, the people who first put a line in my hand, and what has gone from the shore since.
Some of it appears here first, on The coast and in TideLines, as it is written.
It becomes a thing you do with your attention, the way another man says his prayers, or hums the tune to a song.
The sea is quieter now in a way that has no sound.
It has ruined me a little for the rest of life, which mostly asks to be looked at and not truly seen.
The cast is the easy part to love. It is shapely, it photographs well, men frame it.
